about Us

our Mission

At tinyTour, we set out to create a simple, lightweight digital visitor companion for historic houses, museums, gardens and other remarkable places. Visitors can explore at their own pace, discovering stories, images and audio in their preferred language as they move through rooms, grounds and collections.

Simplicity is at the heart of tinyTour. By using visitors’ own smartphones, there are no devices to issue, collect, charge or regularly replace, while the system requires minimal equipment and infrastructure. This makes tinyTour practical and affordable for venues of all sizes.

Our technology works quietly in the background, helping venues tell more of their stories while allowing visitors to concentrate on what really matters — the place itself.

tinyTour

your Visitor.

When your visitor arrives, they connect once to your guest Wi-Fi and scan a QR code, which links to download the tinyTour app from the appropriate app-stor. It is a very small app, and once installed it automatically finds your tinyTour server, recognises the visitor’s language and downloads the complete tour in a matter of seconds.

As the visitor moves around your property, small discreet tags allow tinyTour to recognise where they are and reveal the right story, image or audio at the right moment.

Once the tour has downloaded, Wi-Fi is no longer needed. The visitor simply needs Bluetooth and Location Services enabled on their phone. No personal data is collected or shared.

If you are also using tinyTicket, Wi-Fi is only needed where the ticketing function is being used, which will usually be at the beginning of the visit. When your visitor leaves the venue, the tinyTour app remains on their phone, but your tour content is no longer available.

This helps protect the value of your guidebooks and other souvenir publications, rather than replacing them with a permanently accessible digital version.

FAQ

common Questions

Do I need extensive Wi-Fi infrastructure?

No. tinyTour only requires a reliable Wi-Fi connection at reception, the entrance or another designated meeting point. Visitors download the venue guide there before beginning their visit, so Wi-Fi coverage is not required throughout every room, building or garden.

Do my visitors need 5G or mobile data?

No. Once the guide has been downloaded, visitors do not need mobile data or continuous internet access. tinyTour is particularly suited to historic buildings, rural attractions and gardens where mobile coverage may be poor.

Is tinyTour cloud-based?

No. Each venue has its own compact, low-energy microserver, and the visitor guide is delivered locally. The day-to-day visitor experience is therefore not dependent on a remote cloud platform or a continuous internet connection.

Does tinyTour work if our internet connection fails?

Yes. The guide continues working. Because the visitor content is hosted at the venue, a failure of the external internet connection does not interrupt the visitor experience.

Can visitors access our guide after leaving?

No. The complete guide is designed to be available only as part of an on-site visit. This helps protect exclusive interpretation and supports continued sales of printed and souvenir guidebooks.

Does tinyTour support different languages?

Yes. tinyTour can provide written and audio content in multiple languages and can initially offer the language used by the visitor’s phone. Visitors can also select another available language manually.

Do visitors need specialist equipment?

No. Most visitors use their own smartphone. Venues can also provide a configured phone or small tablet for visitors who do not have a suitable device.

Do visitors need to download an app?

Yes. Visitors download the small free tinyTour app once, normally by scanning a QR code at the venue. The same app can then be used at any participating tinyTour venue.

Can tinyTour cover gardens and outdoor attractions?

Yes. A guide can include rooms, separate buildings, gardens, trails, trees, sculptures and individual objects. Content can appear as visitors move through the venue, while a manual menu remains available.

Can the system expand later?

Yes. A venue can begin with a small number of locations and add more rooms, buildings, outdoor areas or individual features later. Future locations can be prepared in advance while remaining hidden from the public menu until required.

Can we update our content?

Yes. Text, photographs, audio, languages and visitor routes can be updated without creating a separate app for every venue. Updates can be managed by the venue or provided as part of tinyTour’s ongoing support service.

tinyTicket

today's Visit, tomorrow's Return

tinyTicket is a simple, personalised return-pass system built into tinyTour. At the end of their visit, customers go to a designated tinyTicket point located inside the paid area. Using their own phone—or a venue iPad—they take a quick photograph and choose whether to save their return pass digitally or print it using the venue’s compact thermal printer.

Each pass displays the visitor’s photograph, issue date and expiry date, making it personal and non-transferable without requiring names, forms or a customer account.

tinyTicket is designed with privacy in mind. Photographs for printed passes are handled locally, sent to the on-site printer and deleted after printing.

A digital pass remains on the visitor’s own phone. Images are not uploaded to a cloud service or retained in a central photographic database.
